Bead Table Wednesday ... aka BTW

Today, I'm working on the necklace for my Margie and Me challenge (which is to be revealed on the 19th). Here's my table...

I can't show you the piece yet (we're supposed to reveal it on the 19th) but you can kind of see the pendant way in the background behind the wire....I'm liking how its turning out but, I'm thinking of making a maybe another one for the challenge. That is, if time permits....

Color Palette Inspirations...Sneak Previews...

Since I decided to join in a couple of jewelry challenges, I've been digging through my stash of beads. (which reminds me that I really need to start organizing and setting up the craft room). I've looked at the challenge inspirations several times already and tried picking out beads from my stash with the colors from the selected art.

Here's what I picked out....

For the Art Bead Scene inspiration, they chose John Singer Sargent's Carnation, Lily, Lily,Rose -

There's a lot of pretty colors there and I picked out a lot of colors from my stash. I initially chose these....

Although, I loved all the colors, it just seemed to be a jumbled mess. I wanted to cut down the colors and simplify but I loved all of them. So I decided to have two separate color themes..... and it seemed to work out better.

For the first color theme, I used the grape and oracle colors....but I also added a slightly different light pink/flesh color too....

And the second color theme uses logan, lily, blue zodiac, and wewak...

There! Much better, I think.... It looks better and more harmonious!

It's great to have the color palettes all ready. It's much easier to create this way.

And as for the Margie and Me challenge, The Modern Madrid....I've picked out a couple of beads for the first inspiration...a photo by JMDasso

Here are my color choices.....

I'm not quite sure about the center piece bead yet....but, I sure do love the color palette. I also love the second inspiration, however, I may not have enough in my stash to have a complete piece for it. Let's see...there's only about a week and a day left to get going....

Lastly, I posted this new necklace on Etsy today.

It's a simple cluster pendant necklace that's perfect to go with the "In the Ocean of Blue" charm bracelet....

I got the idea from an inquiry today about the bracelet for a wedding party. As I was raking through my stash, I found those beautiful deep blue and violet beads and thought...wouldn't these look lovely with a gorgeous blue gown....so I gave it a try.... check it out in my etsy listing - here.

Winter Theme Contest - Iron Craft Challenge #6

There's a contest this week in the Iron Craft challenge with the theme of winter. I knew immediately what I wanted to do and I already had the needed materials for my project in my stash.

I live in a tropical country (the Philippines) where the current temperatures are between 32-36 degrees Celsius (that's 89-96 Fahrenheit) and we do not have winter. But, I did grow up in New Jersey and remember the cold, snowy winters there. I especially remember how beautiful and magical the trees were when the branches were covered with a blanket of white... 

So, for my contest entry, I submit my Winter's Magic. It is a beaded winter tree made of leaves of Moonstone and twisted together with silver toned aluminum wire and the frozen, rocky pond made from liquid resin.

Today, it is a hot sunny tropical day, but this challenge has taken me back to the nice cool winter breezes of my childhood....

the frozen pond (made of liquid resin...its still drying because I just poured it today).... I love how the resin gives the rock a slippery, icy feel...

I added a bit of green mossy grass just to give a hint that spring is just around the corner....

It was difficult to take pictures of me twisting the beads on to the wire but here are some photos on setting up the rocky base and the frozen pond...

Learning a new technique

I've finally got over my jewelry making hiatus. It's been quite a while since I've had a creative urge to make jewelry. I finally decided to give bead embroidery a try. I have quite a few stones stashed away that would work well with this type of jewelry...Here's my first try...be kind, I have so much to learn.

I couldn't get the colors quite right in my photo because this was quickly taken at night. My supplier didn't have this stone labeled but, it seems to be a poppy jasper stone???? Can anybody identify it? I used some plain seed beads and bugle beads that weren't quite even in size making it difficult to lay flat layers down. I need to find a better source for seed beads that are actually better quality. 

I also need to work on laying the beads out evenly and flat. I guess I need a better needle too. The one I was using was much too big for the teeny tiny beads. I have yet to try the bail for this pendant but, so far, I'm happy and hooked....ready to try out another one!

Hopes To Design...

I sure do enjoy crocheting but, I've totally just started with this craft.I'm still learning a lot from the very basics. When I picked up a crochet hook about 2 months ago, I had very very little knowledge. I watched you tube videos, looked at a lot of blogs and tutorials and started to slowly pick up the craft.

Although there are a myriad of free patterns out there, I'd love to really design my own someday. A couple of days ago, I was at a bookstore and found a wonderful book of crochet border designs. It's called The Complete Book of CROCHET BORDER DESIGNS by Linda P. Schapper. I was excited to buy it because I knew that it would somehow help with my hopes in designing my own patterns.

Each page has several designs that I am very excited to try out! I notice the more stitches I try, the more I understand how crochet actually works. This understanding really helps in learning to design. I'm hoping that I'll at least be able to design my own simple scarf or shawl...which I'm quite addicted to at the moment. I actually joined the 11 shawls in 2011 in Ravelry.
